WALLA WALLA, Wash.-  Walla Walla Police arrested a suspect for assaulting a retirement apartment resident recovering from a stroke.

Police say 22-year-old Jason H. Beeman is facing several felony charges after he assaulted a 56-year-old man inside the entryway at the Affinity retirement apartments Saturday.

Officers say the suspect was trying to enter the building through a back door, but made his way in through the front door before officers could arrive.

Officers arrived and say they witnessed Beeman punching the victim after he had fallen in an attempt to get away.

Police say the assault took place after Beeman allegedly demanded money from the victim.

They say the victim sustained minor injuries.

Police say prior to the assault at the apartments, Beeman had been next door at Applebee's where he handed a note to an employee demanding money and threatening to kill the employee.

Officers say they arrested Beeman for probable cause for burglary, robbery, second degree assault, and one count of third degree assault after spitting at a police officer and a jail officer.

Beeman is also being held on 1 count of harassment for the demand note at Applebee's.
