WASHINGTON (AP) - D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says authorities believe there was only a lone gunman responsible for the Navy Yard shooting rampage that left 13 people dead. Authorities had earlier said they were searching for a possible second suspect. Mayor Vincent Gray says the 12 shooting victims range in age from 46 to 73 years old. The gunman, identified as 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, was also killed. GET MORE DETAILS INSIDE OF THE STORY>>>More >>

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials say the former Navy reservist who gunned down 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard had a string of misconduct problems during his nearly three years in the military, but he received an honorable discharge.

The officials say that Aaron Alexis, 34, had bouts of insubordination, disorderly conduct and was sometimes absent from work without authorization. The offenses occurred mainly when he was serving in Fort Worth, Texas, from 2008-2011, and were enough to prompt Navy officials to grant him an early discharge through a special program for enlisted personnel.

Officials said the bad conduct was enough to make it clear Alexis would not be a good sailor, but not enough to warrant a general or less-than-honorable discharge.

Nothing can wipe away the smile off Kayley Marks’s face. Her fiancé, Thomas Williams, and her three-year-old daughter, Kaliyah, keep her busy, but also keep her smiling, even through the worst of times. “The x-rays came back with a little something different than I expected,” Marks said. A few months ago, a routine check for migraines turned into doctors finding an epidermoid cyst in her brain.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- To you, it may be an old gym bag, or a backpack full of homework, but all thieves see is a potential gold mine unmanned in your car. It's a year-round problem in our community, but Black Friday is like Christmas for crooks. "I came back to my car and the window was broke out, everything was gone from the jockey box," said one car prowling victim. "It made me angry, it's a violation."
