NEAR BENTON CITY, Wash.-- A brush fire next to Webber Canyon Road, near Benton City, charred about 650 acres Wednesday.
Firefighters say they responded to the fire around 4pm and within two hours it was 50% contained. By 10pm, firefighters had the brush fire 100% contained.
No homes were threatened by the fire. No injuries were reported either.
Firefighters' say their top priority was to prevent the flames from jumping Webber Canyon Road and keep the blaze away from houses.
"Our main concern would've been the west flank of it, getting that under control because that could encroach on residents and then we'd have evacuations and we don't want to do that. So we're primary on that flank of the fire. At this time it's pretty well under control," said Scott Hawley, Benton County Fire District 2.
Firefighters used dozers and back burns to contain the fire.
Firefighters aren't sure what started the fire, but investigators will be at the scene on Thursday to investigate.
