UPDATE: Family: 3-Year-Old Boy Recovering After Surgery Following Shooting That Wounded 13

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Family members and a pastor of a 3-year-old who was one of 13 people shot on Chicago's southwest side last night say the boy is resting in a hospital.

His grandmother describes the boy as "doing better" and says he's "very strong" after he had plastic surgery. Family members say the boy was shot in the cheek.

Pastor Corey Brooks of the New Beginnings Church of Chicago says the toddler was talking when he arrived at the hospital and is heavily sedated.

Meanwhile, Chicago police continue to searching for whoever opened fire. Investigators say they believe last night's shooting was gang-related, but they still haven't made any arrests.

The shooting was reported around 10 p.m. One witness said dreadlocked men opened fire from a car, but police didn't say how many suspects they were searching for.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It took a jury only a little more than two hours on Wednesday to find Daniel Arteaga guilty for the murder of Kim Schmidt. The prosecution said Arteaga was very jealous that his relationship was ending with Schmidt and she was moving on. They say that's part of the reason why he decided to kill her at the beginning of 2012. The defense disagreed saying that Arteaga was not there when she died and they think she may have even died of suicideMore >>
