YAKIMA, Wash. - A Yakima County Judge has set bail at $2 Million for a woman accused of tampering with and intimidating witnesses and victims.
The Yakima County Sheriff's Office arrested and booked Stephanie Lynn Barnes into the Yakima County Jail on Friday.
Deputies say the 38-year-old woman had been working as a private investigator in the area. Deputies say she wasn't employed by an attorney, but instead worked independently for the suspects of several cases, including homicides and serious assaults.
Deputies say Barnes also offered money (and other forms of compensation) to victims and witnesses of violent crimes, so they would change their witness statements, making it more difficult to prove the suspects guilty in court.
Deputies say they believe she interfered with serious crimes, currently under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Yakima Police Department.
