Yakima Teachers Discuss New Contracts

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima School District is negotiating new contracts for teachers.

The new contracts will include strict performance evaluations for faculty and staff based on student's success.

This is the first school year there is a four-tiered statewide evaluation system for teachers and school administrators.

School officials said they are working hard to make sure everyone is happy with the new contracts.

"With the new evaluation system, it's causing a lot of discussion for clarity, feed back from our different groups, so it's gone into the school year, but we are striving to be done as soon as possible," said Associate Superintendent Cece Mahre.

The state legislature passed a new evaluation system in 2010, but was revised two years later.
