Chiefs Start 2-0 With 6-2 Win Over Victoria

VICTORIA, B.C. -

The Spokane Chiefs are off to a 2-0 start in the 2013-14 season with a 6-2 win over the Victoria Royals Tuesday night in Victoria, B.C. Mitch Holmberg led the offense with 2 goals and an assist, while Mike Aviani and Jason Fram had 2 assists apiece in the Chiefs second straight road win to open the year.

Holmberg got the scoring started with a power play goal from Reid Gow and Fram 9:22 into the game. Blair Oneschuk would notch his first WHL goal on a rebound at 15:06 of the period to put the Chiefs ahead 2-0. After a Royals power play goal with 45 seconds left in the first, Jeremy McIntosh finished off an Aviani feed with just 11 seconds remaining to give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead after one. Holmberg also netted an assist on the goal.

Carter Proft's first goal of the year at 11:49 of the second put the Chiefs up 4-1, but Victoria would score just 45 seconds later to cut the lead to 4-2 after two. Holmberg would score his second of the night from Aviani at 8:38 of the third to make it 5-2 Spokane. Adam Helewka would net his first of the season on the power play at 13:02 to cap the scoring.

Holmberg now has 5 goals and 2 assists in two games, while Aviani has 4 assists in two contests. Eric Williams picked up his 2nd win with 26 saves, including stopping a penalty shot in the first period. Spokane outshot Victoria 42-28, including 17-7 in the third period. The Chiefs were 2-4 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill. Spokane will go for their 2nd straight win in Victoria Wednesday night at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
