Just in time, Coats for Kids

Posted: Updated:

Pasco, Wash. With the autumn air cooling off the Tri-Cities, the Salvation Army is ready to start giving away coats to needy families.

The Salvation Army this Saturday kicks-off its annual Coats for Kids campaign.

Needy families can come in and pick from the selection of coats currently in stock, or sign up for the coats that will be donated in this year's Coats for Kids drive.

"They don't need to bring anything. They just need to be present and just let us know how many coats they need for their family," says Anet Medina, a Salvation Army worker. "If they are not able to find one, they can come next week starting October first through February 28th."

Last year the Salvation Army gave away nearly three thousand coats to families throughout the Tri-Cities.

The Salvation Army will have refreshments and games for children at the kick off event at its offices at 1219 Thayer Drive in Richland.

If you'd like to help out, you can drop off a new or gently used coat at the Salvation Army or at one of the donation barrels located throughout the Tri-Cities.

For more information, call the Salvation Army at 547-2138.

KENNEWICK: Good news for all of you bargain shoppers out there, Goodwill is opening a brand new store in Kennewick sometime next year. Thanks to a 3.1 million dollar loan and lots of planning, a very large patch of dirt will be home to a 20,000 square foot Goodwill; half warehouse and processing, half retail. The Kennewick store will be closing, however. You can still say, out with your old couches, TV's and clothing, and *into someone else's hands, just at a different location. ...More >>
