SPOKANE POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE:
Spokane Police search for Vehicle Theft, Eluding and Hit and Run suspect Sam Banks (25 years old). Banks, a Repeat Offender is accused of fleeing from the scene after an officer stopped the stolen vehicle Banks was driving. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check 456-2233.
On 09-25-13 around 4:00pm, an officer with the Spokane Police Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) attempted to take Repeat Offender Sam Banks into custody after the car Banks was driving was determined to be stolen.
In the course of stopping the vehicle and attempting to arrest Banks, he drove away, causing the officer to lose control of the firearm he was holding. The suspect hit a wooden fence with the vehicle while fleeing.
Officers pursued the suspect vehicle and located it several blocks away. Banks fled the scene on foot. The officer's firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.
Spokane Police are still actively looking for Sam Banks. There is probable cause to arrest him for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Hit and Run Collision and Eluding. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
Spokane Police officers are searching for a man who they say ended up with an officer's gun in his vehicle during an attempted stop Wednesday afternoon.
Spokane Police say an officer spotted 25-year-old Sam Bank in a stolen vehicle near Holy Family Hospital. Banks is well-known to police. Officers tried to make contact with Banks, who attempted to drive away. As Banks drove away, an officer had his gun drawn and the car hit the officer's hand, causing him to drop the gun, and the gun then fell into the back seat of the car. Police do not believe Banks hit the officer on purpose and aren't sure if he even knew the gun was in the back seat.
The car and gun were recovered a short time later in an alley.
They set up a perimeter in the area and tried to locate Banks, but were unsuccessful.
Banks was born in 1988, he is 5'7" 140 lbs with a medium build. Police recognized Banks because he is a repeat offender and was actually arrested a few weeks ago for possession of a stolen vehicle. Police say the best thing Banks can do for himself at this time is to turn himself in.
If you see him, you're asked to call 911 immediately.
