KENT, Wash. - A police dog in western Washington is recovering after getting stabbed by a suspect.

A police dog in the Kent police department was assisting officers responding to a domestic violence call on Tuesday.

The department says the dog, Kato, had located the suspect when the man stabbed the dog in the shoulder with a pocket knife.

Officers took Kato to the veterinarian where surgery was performed. The dog was released Wednesday from the clinic.
