CWU Helps 2,000 Students GEAR UP for College

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash.--Friday is the final day of GEAR UP week in Washington, but for one university the program lasts all year long.

Thanks to a seven year, $11.7 million federal grant, Central Washington University helps more than 2,000 students with their early education.

CWU's program director said they're currently working with 8th and 9th grade students.

"It's very important that we start with them early so that kids know and have that whole idea that I'm going to college," said Tracy Plouse, CWU's GEAR UP Director.

GEAR UP focuses on middle school and high school students and provides tutoring support as well as community involvement.
