SWX's And O's: Washington State Vs. Stanford

Posted: Updated:
SEATTLE -

Here are six things you need to know about Saturday's matchup between the Washington State Cougars and Stanford Cardinal at CenturyLink Field:

1. Cardinal

They are the Stanford Cardinal, not Cardinals. As in the color, not the bird.

2. 2003

That's the last time WSU started the season 4-1. A win on Saturday and the Cougs would match their best start in 10 years.

3. 11

The Cougars have played at the home field of the Seattle Seahawks 11 times, "a series that started in 2002 with WSU hosting Nevada in the first football game played in the new stadium," according to wsucougars.com.

4. 17-24

WSU came close to upsetting Stanford last year, losing by only seven points on the road. The Cougs have lost their last five against the Cardinal, with the most recent victory coming in 2007 in the way of a 33-17 win at Martian Stadium.

5. 90-10

Combined score of the Southern Utah and Idaho games. Domination. Lesser opponents, yes, but domination nonetheless.

6. 8

Interceptions by WSU QB Connor Halliday this season. With 187 attempts, that's 4.3% of his passes being intercepted. He needs to play mistake-free football if the Cougars are going to have any chance against Stanford.

WSU and Stanford kicks off at 7:00 p.m. Saturday Sept. 28 on ESPN.
