PENDLETON, OR - Thirteen sheep were killed, a car caught fire, and a driver was uninjured after a collision involving a car and herd of sheep on Interstate 84 in northeast Oregon.
The sheep had gotten into the traffic lanes of I-84 in the Blue Mountains near Meacham after dark Monday when a West Richland driver plowed into them.
51-year-old Robert Anderson was driving westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 238 when
it hit the herd of sheep. The car came to rest on the side of the freeway, where it caught fire. Firefighters put out the fire, but the car was totaled.
Luckily, State Police say Anderson was uninjured.
However, police say it isn't clear how the herd got onto the interstate highway south of Pendleton. The 13 sheep belonged to a local ranch.
