WEST RICHLAND, WA - Crews with the Columbia Basin Dive Rescue crew were busy Wednesday morning, after a car ended up in an irrigation ditch in West Richland.

Police say the driver was trying to make a left turn onto Canal Drive, from Pederson Road, when he lost control and went into the ditch. Divers had to get into the water in order to hook the car up to a tow truck.

Police say the driver was not under the influence and was only going a couple miles an hour over the speed limit.

"The gentleman driving had just left his aunt's house," said Deputy Glen Thompson with the Benton County Sheriff's Office. "He came up to the yield sign, there was no indication that there was other traffic, he just missed a corner," he continued.

The driver was the only one in the car and was not hurt. He says he was in the process of getting the car painted; now he just hopes it starts.
