Hollywood Actress Makes a Stop in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA-- It is the start of the Town Hall Speaker series in Yakima, and this season brought a big Hollywood name to the city.

Wednesday morning, Academy Award inning actress Geena Davis stopped by to talk about the perception of women in the media and how to empower young girls with positive female role models.

She said if there is just one thing people can take away from her speech, it is that the impression of women in the media starts at a young age.

"We become aware of how profoundly that impacts our society that we're in effect training kids to see girls as second class citizen by the media they consume," Davis said.

Davis is also a semi-finalist for the U.S. Olympic trials in archery and a member of Mensa.

She is the first of four speakers to come to Yakima for this season of Town Hall Speakers.
