UMATILLA COUNTY, OR - The West Umatilla County Mosquito Control District confirms a horse north of Hermiston has tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
Testing at the Oregon State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Corvallis, Oregon confirmed the results Friday, September 27th.
It's is the first detection in a horse in Umatilla County since 2009. The positive horse diagnosis comes five weeks after officials first detected the virus in mosquitoes in Umatilla County.
Veterinarians encourage owners to have horses vaccinated, and to get rid of stagnant water around their property that can become mosquito breeding areas.
