Stop The Violence March Planned For Saturday

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. – Enough is enough. That's what a group of people in Spokane are saying when it comes to violence in the city. The group, made up of local community members, law enforcement officials, and faith-based leaders, is planning its first big event for Saturday.

On Saturday there will be a march to Stop The Violence. The march starts at 10am at Liberty Park in downtown Spokane. It will end at Mission Park and join another community event called "Spokane October's CareFest 2013."

Press Release Below:

Let's take our city back. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Let's give those who were killed by gun violence, the senior citizens that are being attacked, ALL THE MURDERS AND SUICIDES ON THE RESERVATIONS, the mothers and children that are being beaten, the un-necessary bullying that is happening and etc... a voice to say "STOP THE VIOLENCE!" Let's not let their lives be in vain. We are marching from Liberty Park to the Spokane October's Carefest 2013 at Mission Park in the Gonzaga Neighborhood.

October 5, 2013

Culture Fair
This event will have multiple ethnic groups and their cultures fully represented. The park will be divided into multiple zones according to each of the continents (ie: North American, Oceania, African, etc.). Each zone will be divided into whatever group that are originally from that continent (ie: the Marshallese section in the Oceania zone). So when enter into that zone you will experience their culture through communication, song, dance, artifacts, food and more. The purpose of this setup is that we can better understand each group that are trying to make a home with us here in the Inland Northwest and experience who they are.

Resource Fair
Most of the time, people are unaware of the resources that are available to them. So what we want to do is bring the resources to them. This event will feature a few designated areas that will supply people with resources and giveaways. We want to invite organizations and small businesses to offer free goods and services to people so that they can see what hope and community look like.

Health Fair
In collaboration with organizations like Community-Minded Enterprise, we want to have health and dental screening while signing up eligible participants for free health care. There will be multiple organizations that will provide information and goods for participating families and individuals. Also mental health organizations and partners will be available at this event. We want people to leave healthy and a sense of potential safety and hope with a peace of mind.

Swap Meet
Soon, we would like to organize a community swap meet in the Spokane Metro Area. This event will be used to test a small to medium size flea market and evaluate on how our community will respond to their local vendors and families displaying what they have to offer. It is important that we support our local "mom and pop" businesses. Various items will be sold for discount prices.

Entertainment
All park festivals must have good quality entertainment! This is exactly what we plan on doing. We will provide a stage for local bands, artists, groups, comedians and much more so that they can deliver the community quality family entertainment. Various genres of music will be there (mostly singers and bands) and also there we will have live community speakers, city representatives and officials. We want people to leave the event and say to themselves, "Wow, that was Fun!"

Outreach
There will be multiple outreach stations position throughout the park from various ministries and outreach programs in order to provide that needed spiritual support to those that want it. Sometimes, we all hit rough dark patches in our lives and may need some light to help see our way out of it. That's the purpose of this event. It is to provide hope to those in need.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It took a jury only a little more than two hours on Wednesday to find Daniel Arteaga guilty for the murder of Kim Schmidt. The prosecution said Arteaga was very jealous that his relationship was ending with Schmidt and she was moving on. They say that's part of the reason why he decided to kill her at the beginning of 2012. The defense disagreed saying that Arteaga was not there when she died and they think she may have even died of suicideMore >>
