WA Health Care Exchange Running Smoothly After First Several Days

Posted: Updated: After four days of on and off maintenance on Washington's Health Plan Finder web site it is now up and running more smoothly.

So far they have had more than 180 thousand visits since the site became available October 1. More than 28 thousand people have opened accounts to start their health plan search.

"I think it's going as planned we anticipated for the system to come up to speed both here at the state level and federal level there was going to be a few road bumps like we've seen, but the system seems to be working, it's just been a little slow but as we move forward we're real confident its going to work fine," said Wesley Luckey, Community Action Connection.

In-person assistants at Community Action Connection in Pasco are helping people enroll for health coverage using the web site.

Luckey said they already have about 30 people scheduled for appointments starting Monday.

"We wanted the process to get underway before we started to see our consumers," he added.

More than 20 thousand people have used the call center in Spokane since October 1. On average they have been waiting about 14 minutes to get service but people also have the option of asking for a callback so they do not have to wait on the line.

Luckey also said it is important to remember the enrollment deadlines.

"We want them to get in here within a reasonable time, don't wait until the last minute," said Luckey.

The enrollment period goes until March 31, but if you want to get coverage by the January 1 start date you need to get signed up by December 23.
