Walk Raises Thousands for Childhood Speech Impediment

YAKIMA, WA. -- A walk for a rare neurological disease called Apraxia raised thousands of dollars for research Saturday. Childhood Apraxia is a speech disorder that makes it extremely difficult or impossible for kids to communicate. Organizers say raising children with this disorder is hard.

"His words, because they don't come out clearly he gets really frustrated," Walk Organizer Elizabeth Fernandez said. "And he wants to talk to us and he wants to tell us what's going on in his mind but when we can't understand him he just kind of gives up and walks away."

The walk raised more than $3,400 for research for the Childhood Apraxia Speech Association of North America.
