  At 11:09 PM Yakima Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1300 block of Spokane St.

First arriving crews found heavy fire showing from the back side of a single family residence. Bystanders reported the structure to be vacant and undergoing renovation. Firefighters attack the fire aggressively, quickly knocking down the main body of fire located under a rear patio roof. It was quickly apparent that the fire had extended into the structure and into the attic.

Secondary crews forced entry and quickly extinguished the fire that had penetrated to the interior. Additional crews cut access holes into the attic and extinguished the flames burning there.
There were no injuries.
What was the probable cause?
  Neighbors reported hearing an explosion followed by flames to the back portion of the house. The cause of the fire is highly suspicious and under investigation.
What was the extent of the damage?
  he home suffered severe damage to the patio and kitchen area. A large portion of the roof was destroyed. There was smoke and heat damage throughout the house which was being remodeled.
