UPDATE: NAMES RELEASED - DOUBLE FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 20 BETWEEN VALE AND ONTARIO IN MALHEUR COUNTY

Oregon State Police (OSP) Collision Reconstructionists are continuing the investigation into the cause of Sunday morning's fatal traffic crash involving a farm truck and a passenger car that occurred along Highway 20 between Vale and Highway 201. The crash resulted in the death of two people and non-life threatening injuries to two others. All names are released in this update.

According to Sergeant Bob Wilson, on October 6, 2013 at approximately 9:14 a.m., a 1973 Ford F600 farm truck driven by AQUILINO CASTILLEJA MARTINEZ, age 72, from Ontario, pulled onto Highway 20 near milepost 256 from the south side and was accelerating after getting into the westbound lane when it was struck in the rear by a westbound 1999 Dodge Intrepid four-door occupied by two adults and a juvenile female. There was no obvious roadway evidence showing the Dodge passenger car braked before impact. The farm truck came to rest in a field off the highway and the passenger car came to rest on the highway.

The Dodge's driver, JOHN RUSSELL HENDRICKS, age 56, and 52-year old passenger/wife, ANGELA NAOMI HENDRICKS, both from Parma, Idaho, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their 13-year old daughter, JIANNI HENDRICKS, received non-life threatening injuries.

JIANNI HENDRICKS and MARTINEZ were both transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario where they were treated and released.

OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Senior Trooper Paul Donovan is the lead investigator.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Malheur County Sheriff's Office, Ontario Fire Department, and ODOT. The highway was closed about four hours.
