WA Military Department Recalls Over 700 Furloughed Federal Technicians

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - The Washington Military Department says more than 700 furloughed federal technicians can return to work starting Tuesday.

The Department began notifying the furloughed workers Monday.

Last Tuesday, the Department notified more than 760 federal technicians across the state that they were temporarily furloughed until Congress could reach a budget compromise. Since then, under new guidance by the Department of Defense, all but four federal employees have been recalled.

Approximately 80 state employees of the Washington Military Department who have been furloughed will remain on furlough.  The "Pay Our Military Act" that allowed federal civilian employees to return to work did not address state employees reimbursed by federal funds.

A lapse in federal appropriations will continue to limit the department's ability to conduct normal day-to-day activities. Federal funding is still not available for operations and maintenance, as well as to conduct regularly scheduled weekend drills.
