UPDATE: FINLEY, WA - According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, Shane DeWeber has been released from Kennewick General Hospital.
He has been booked into Benton County Jail and is awaiting his first court appearance.
UPDATE: FINLEY, WA. - The Benton County Sheriff's Office has released more information about a crash involving two patrol cars early Monday morning.
Deputies say just after 4 AM, a woman called 911 saying her estranged husband, 33-year-old Shane DeWeber was trying to break into her home on E. Bowles Road.
Deputies say when they arrived, the man threatened them with a sword and asked them to shoot him before climbing into his silver Dodge Ram pick-up. Deputies tased him, but he drove away.
Shortly after, deputies say someone saw DeWeber speeding on Haney Road near Bowles Road with his headlights off. The Sheriff's Office says a deputy and a Kennewick Police Officer pulled over nearby to place spike strips across the roadway, and as they were getting the strips out of their cars, they heard DeWeber drive up.
Deputies say DeWeber pointed his truck at the patrol cars, which were parked on the shoulder of the road with their emergency lights on, and rammed both vehicles. The officers were barely able to get out of the way before both patrol cars were destroyed.
Deputies say after the collision, DeWeber crawled out of his truck and charged the two officers, who then tased him, but at 6'5" tall and 260 pounds, the taser didn't have an effect.
Deputies say after a brief struggle, officers arrested him. Paramedics took him to Kennewick General Hospital, where he is currently in the ICU in stable condition.
The Sheriff's Office plans to file criminal charges for attempted burglary, multiple counts of felony assault on an officer and felony eluding of a police vehicle.
UPDATE: FINLEY, WA - The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man crashed his truck into two patrol cars in Finley around 6:00am.
Deputies say officers with Benton County and Kennewick Police were on the side of the road in the area of S. Haney Road and E. Bowles Road setting up spike strips to catch a possible drunk or impaired driver when he rammed the two patrol cruisers.
Deputies say both officers were out of their cars at the time of the crash and were not injured. Deputies say the man was speeding at the time of the crash. Paramedics took the driver of the truck to the hospital with serious injuries.
