McKenzie Mott's Family Releases Statement

Statement from the Mott Family:

· "McKenzie Mott's tragic end is the stone that the Lord has thrown into the pond of life we all live in, and its ripples have touched all of us in this community in some way.

· The Mott Family would like to acknowledge and thank the Spokane community, the Central Valley School District family, the University High School family, the Central Valley High family, soccer family, friends and relatives for their outpouring of love, care and support. We are so blessed to be a part of this community.

· We would also like to send our thoughts and prayers to the Freier and Maher Family during this difficult time."

Memorial Service & Burial

A public memorial service for McKenzie Mott will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Spokane Valley (3606 S. Schafer Rd). It will be followed by a reception. A burial service will take place late Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph's Cemetery (17825 E. Trent) in Spokane Valley.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of McKenzie Mott, the family says you can do so by sending a donation to the Redeemer Lutheran Church - Vacation Bible School (3606 S Schafer Rd - Spokane Valley, WA 99206) - where McKenzie and Josie Freier solidified their friendship, shared their passion for the Lord and loved to help children. You can do this individually or through the McKenzie Mott Memorial Fund at any area Washington Trust Bank branch.

Police say Thomas Vargus was apprehended Sunday in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, where he'd been staying with a man who shot a New Jersey state trooper in 1982 and had spent time in prison with him.

    FLORENCE, Colo. - A Nigerian man serving life in prison after trying to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner with a bomb in his underwear on Christmas in 2009 says his civil and religious rights are being violated. A lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Colorado says Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (OO'-mahr fah-ROOK' ahb-DOOL'-moo-TAH'-lahb) is in indefinite, long-term solitary confinement at the federal Supermax penitentiary in Florence, Colorado.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - The body of a woman was found Monday afternoon near the Bowl and Pitcher area in Riverside State Park.  Firefighters responded to the scene initially as a water rescue, and now Spokane Police are handling the investigation.  We're told the woman appears to be in her 30's.  This is a developing story and we'll update it as soon as we confirm additional details.
