NBCRightNow.com- In the midst of the government shutdown, people are encouraged to call their congressional representatives, but as NBC Right Now found out some of their offices are closed.
"I wanted this morning to call up our representatives to complain," said James Larson, Pasco Resident.
Larson is used to getting a hold of someone at congressional offices, instead Tuesday morning, he got the following message.
"You've reached the office of senator Cantwell. We're sorry to report that our office is closed due to the government shutdown. We know that your call is important and we apologize that we cannot take it at this time."
NBC Right Now tried calling too. Both Senator Cantwell and Senator Murray's voicemail asked callers to leave a message while their offices are closed but neither had a time frame for when calls would be returned.
Even getting a hold of their press offices was difficult, but we did hear back from Senator Cantwell's office through e-mail, they're still encouraging people to call and leave a voicemail and said they will respond as soon as they're able.
"Congress people not being there to hear what we have to say, specially during this shutdown when we should be able to tell them what we think about what's going on," add Larson.
We asked people on Facebook if they have been able to contact their representatives and got similar responses. NBC Right Now's Facebook friends said they have found offices to be closed too.
Larson said he was able to talk to someone at Doc Hastings office Tuesday morning and NBC Right Now did confirm his office and Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers offices are still open.
