Suspicious Fire Destroys Garage in Yakima

YAKIMA, WA. -- A fire in Yakima brought down a power line and sent a garage up in flames.

It only took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the fire at the home along South 7th Avenue, but in that time, the fire destroyed the garage of the house.

Investigators believe the cause of fire was intentional. Even neighbors tell NBC Right now they think the fire is suspicious because no one has been living in that house for months. Neighbors also report hearing loud explosions before the fire trucks arrived.

"There was an explosion first," Patricia Jackson said. "I thought it was thundering because I was on the laptop not paying attention. So yeah it was pretty crazy."

Firefighters kept people at a safe distance after they noticed a downed power line. Its not clear whether the fire caused the line to fall or if the line ignited the fire. Investigators are looking into the cause.

The garage was a total loss and the fire caused about $10,000 in damage.
