KENNEWICK, WA - Directors at Kadlec say the hospital's new emergency room in Kennewick is exceeding their expectations.

The average wait time from when a patient checks into the 24-hour ER to when they're in a room  is only about six minutes.

Doctors say they can perform most emergency services without leaving each patient's room, so treatment is efficient and patients have more privacy.

"If you have a chest pain, you're going to be seen quickly. If you have a cold you're going to be seen quickly, and so I think contributes to not only the care, but also the patient satisfaction. The efficiency makes a big difference," said Dr. Thomas Gelwix, the ER Medical Director at Kadlec.

Since the free-standing ER opened back in June, doctors say they've been seeing nearly 50 patients a day.

The full staff of physicians, nurses, and lab technicians are equipped to treat up to 18 patients at any time.

For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
