KHQ.COM - On Friday morning University High School hosted a homecoming assembly to honor two students that were killed in a car crash, Josie Freier and McKenzie Mott. At the beginning of the ceremony, each student brought out a toy and put it on the gym floor. The goal was to bring in so many toys that you can't see the gym floor.

University High students weren't the only ones who donated toys, several other schools in the area also showed up with busses full of toys.

University High's band and choir played and sang a beautiful tribute to honor the victims. It was a very emotional moment for everyone inside of the gym while music filled the airwaves.

The entire girl's soccer team from University High wore Mckenzie's number on t-shirts to honor her at the assembly. McKenzie's number was #9 and it was announced that her jersey will temporarily be retired.

The leadership teacher at University High ended the ceremony telling students the following: "Don't forget to say I love you, don't forget to give that hug and receive that hug, and keep their memories alive."

Toys From Titans was a drive set up to honor Josie and McKenzie. Josie Freier loved working for Toys For Tots, so her family asked that people donate a toy in her honor.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - The nice weather is here and more people are out enjoying parks, lakes, and events like Hoopfest.  The Spokane Valley Police Department and Spokane County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone that criminals are also out, and are looking to prey on valuables left behind in your parked cars.  Law enforcement says it doesn't matter if your vehicle is locked or unlocked, it takes less than a second for a thief to enter and steal your belongings.
