5k Run in Yakima Remembers Teacher

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA. -- Hundreds came out today to pay their respects for a former teacher and avid runner who died last year.

Today people were running for Barry James. He was the director of the Hardcore Runners Club in Yakima. James was also a teacher at Apple Valley Elementary School. He was a Livestrong Award Winner and died of cancer last September.

"He's here. He is here," Race Director Kate Soldano said. "He's looking down on us and he's very happy that this is going on. Here we are Barry! We're doing this for you. This one is for you!"

James passed away after seven years with a rare form of liver cancer. The run went through Terrace Heights and East Valley this morning in memory of him.
