Cougs Defend Brother In Arms

Posted: Updated:
PULLMAN, Wash. -

WSU quarterback Connor Halliday came under fire from the outside after a disappointing performance in the Cougars' 52-24 loss on Saturday, but coach Mike Leach and linebacker Darryl Monroe defended the redshirt junior gunslinger from Spokane.

"It's apparent that he can play better," Leach said. "But I thought he played really well for three quarters."

"Who are we to be like the outsiders?" Monroe questioned. "He already has enough pressure, he already has enough people against him. We are his brothers. We're always going to be there for him. When he doesn't get a successful drive or something, we just go out like, 'Hey, we got it for you, we'll get it back.'

"We're always going to support him, because we're going to need him."
