Narrative
The City of Yakima Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of S Naches Ave. The alarm time was 22:12. The battalion chief arrived and reported a fire on the exterior that extended into the attic.

Six adults and four children were displaced by the fire. All of the occupants were out of the house converted into a duplex. No one was injured. Occupants said they were sleeping at the time the fire was discovered. Someone was banging on the window to alert the occupants.

The occupants received assistance from the local chapter of the Red Cross.

Battalion Chief Mitch Cole called for a second alarm saying, "The fire was in the attic when we arrived. The complexity of construction and the building materials made it difficult to get water on the fire." Fire crews worked diligently to extinguish the fire.

Nineteen firefighters were on the first alarm assignment. With the second alarm struck an additional 26 firefighters available.
What was the probable cause?
The fire is considered suspicious. Investigators indicated there were no accidental causes and the fire started on the exterior of the home. Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the fire to contact the Yakima Fire Department at 509-575-6060.
What was the extent of the damage?
The fire started on the exterior and burned into the attic where most of the damage was done. The interior sustained damage primarily from pulling the ceiling down so fire streams could stop the fire growth.
