Franklin Co. Fire Dist. 3 Needs Voters Support to Continue EMS Service

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA-- If you call 911 for an ambulance in Franklin County Fire District 3, come next year there might not be one to show up.

The future of the Franklin County Fire District 3 emergency medical service system is uncertain and the fire department wants you to know it's up to the voters to keep it going.

For 60 years Fire District 3 has offered emergency services, but a recent contract with the City of Pasco to provide those services was ended after the city wanted to raise the cost 500% in two years.

The EMS service is running on reserve funds now, but they'll run out early next year. To maintain the service, a levy lift is needed and it's up to the voters to approve it next month.

The levy lift would cost a homeowner of a $200,000 house, $64 a year.

No one attended an informational meeting Wednesday about the issues, but the fire department hopes more will attend the next one.

If you'd like to attend the next informational meeting, it's on Tuesday October 22nd at Fire Station 34 on Road 84 in Pasco at 6pm.
