UPDATE: Accident Kills Airway Heights Inmate In Stevens County

 The staff at the Airway Heights Corrections Center has notified the family of the inmate who died Thursday while working in Stevens County on DNR land. He has been identified as 47-year-old Daniel James Hall. 

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources have confirmed that an inmate with the Airway Heights Correction Center has died while working on state land. 

The Department of Corrections says Hall was in the minimum security unit at Airway Heights Corrections Center and was serving a 45 month sentence for drug and auto theft convictions. He was scheduled to complete his sentence in September of 2014. 

The Department of Corrections says Mr. Hall did not commit any serious infractions during his time in prison. 

The investigation into Mr. Hall's death continues.

Peter LaValle from The Department of Natural Resources in Olympia told KHQ that a crew from Airway Heights was working on rehabilitating land, and some sort of accident resulted in the death of one of the inmates on the crew. Officials have not disclosed what kind of accident occurred. 

The inmate has not been identified, but right now the Department of Corrections is working on notifying the family of the inmate. 

An investigation has been launched by DNR and will also include Labor and Industries.
