UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (AP) - Police say six members of a family were killed and an officer was injured when a car and a cruiser collided at an intersection northwest of Ohio's capital.

An officer from the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington was responding to an armed robbery report when the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Officials say the cruiser's lights were flashing and the siren was on.

Perry Township police Chief Robert Oppenheimer says a Columbus man was driving the other car, and his wife was in the front seat. The back-seat passengers were their four daughters, ages 16, 14, 12 and 2.

The local police union says the officer in the cruiser is being treated for a head injury at a hospital.

Oppenheimer says the officer is in shock over the deaths and hasn't been interviewed.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - The fourth-largest wildfire in California history continues to grow and threaten thousands of homes despite armies of fire crews and fleets of bulldozers and aircraft. The blaze northwest of Los Angeles grew by 3,000 acres overnight and although Santa Ana winds eased on Friday, they are expected to return with a vengeance over the weekend.
