Delbert Belton Update: Trial Postponed Until March

Posted: Updated:

The murder of 88 year old war veteran Delbert Belton is a crime that got national attention back in August.

He was brutally punched and beaten while waiting in the car for one of his friends. When his friend later found him, Belton was bleeding but still alive.

But by the time paramedics arrived, it was too late. Belton died at the hospital that night.

Two teenagers were accused of the crime. Both were 16 years old and caught on surveillance video at a nearby store near the time of the murder.

One, Demetrius Glenn, turned himself in. The other, Kenan Adams-Kinard, was arrested four days later after police received an anonymous tip.

Then came a bombshell.  In previous statements made by Adams-Kinard, he said that Belton was a drug dealer and the two boys were going to by crack from Belton...

However police have said there is no evidence to support that..

The two juveniles arrested appeared in court today. Their trial was pushed back until next year. Glenn's attorney, Chris Phelps, didn't want to delay the trial today. However Adams-Kinard's attorney Derek Reid did.

Reid says that the DNA evidence collected at the scene the night of the murder hasn't come back yet, and likely won't until November.

He also says there is more circumstantial evidence against Adams-Kinard, than there is Glenn.

There is still a lot that needs to happen before now and March. A pre-trial hearing is set for Feburary and the DNA evidence still needs to come back from the lab for both the prosecution and defense to analyze it.

But if everything goes off without a hitch, both will be tried together in March for the murder of 88-year old Delbert Belton.
