KENNEWICK, WA. - Kennewick United Methodist Church held it's annual Holly Daze bazaar Saturday and the talk of the event, like every year, was Pepiot's famous bean soup.
Duane Pepiot created the secret 11 1/2 bean soup mix about 20 years ago. His wife says it took him about a year to perfect it. Duane lost his battle with cancer in June, but his famous soup continues to be a staple at the church's bazaar.
"It's a very big family tradition that we've all done together and it was such an honor to have him hand it to me and our family to carry it on," said Katie Norman-Suitonu, Duane's granddaughter.
The family has sold more than 17 tons of beans since the soup's creation. All proceeds of the soup are donated back the church.
