Benton PUD Warning Customers of Telephone Scam

Posted: Updated: - Benton PUD is warning customers of a telephone scam they say is targeting utility customers across the state.

Benton PUD says someone is calling and telling customers that they need to collect money on a past due account and demand they pay immediately or will be disconnected that day. The caller is also requesting payments be made by money order, credit card, or cash card.

Benton PUD wants to remind people that they do not contact customers by telephone and ask for payments to avoid disconnection when an account is past due.

If customers are unsure if a call is actually from Benton PUD, they should hang up and call Benton PUD customer service at (509) 582-2175.

Benton PUD serves 49,000 customers in Kennewick, Finley, Benton City, Prosser and outlying areas.
