KENNEWICK, WA. -With the Tri-Cities garnering a reputation for being a great place to retire, Tuesday's Senior Times Expo drew a large crowd. Hundreds of senior citizens showed up at the Red Lion at Columbia Center during the first hour of the free event.

The expo offers products and services geared for senior living, including financial services and health care.

The Senior Times newspaper put on the expo. Mike Haugen, the newspaper's advertising director, says the senior community continues to grow in the Tri-Cities.

"It's a huge market," Haugen says. "The Tri-Cities and Mid-Columbia region take in about 250,000 people, so out of those, easily 30 percent are seniors or about to become seniors."

If you missed the expo, you can get a lot of information about services and products available to seniors in the Tri-Cities by picking up the Senior Times, a free newspaper published the first of every month and available at several locations.

For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
