YAKIMA, WA-- Police said they have a suspect on the run in connection with the Red Apple Motel murder on Friday night.  They said it will only be a matter of time before he is in custody.

Monday night police searched through a mobile home park in Yakima all because of a stolen car and a little bit of luck.

"A YSO deputy was on North First Street and ironically the license plate reader that he had operating on his patrol vehicle hit on a stolen car," said Captain Rod Light of the Yakima Police Department.

And it was that one coincidence that started a search for the suspect in connection with last week's murder at the red apple motel.

Sheriff's deputies and police started searching for the man they think killed 26-year-old Joshua Mathis in front of his motel room.

"It just happened to be the accounts of people we interviewed last night that he actually was one of the men in the car," Light said.

Police said two men and a woman were in the stolen car that deputies discovered.

The woman was taken in for questioning, and the men escaped and ran through the mobile home park to get away.

"They cut and run so to speak," Light said.

Neighbors we spoke with were hesitant to go on camera, but one man who works at the mobile home park says this isn't the first time this has happened.

"This is an area they cut through and we've had pursuits come through here before," said Stanley Andrews.

Police said it's only a matter of time before they find the man they're looking for.

"We'll continue the search today, we'll find the guy,"

Police also said it is frustrating to be so close to finding their suspect, only to have them slip through their fingers.
