NBCRightNow.com- The cost of college is still going up, but not as much as it has in the past.

The College Board says the average published cost for an in-state student to attend a four-year college is $247 more this year and now about $8,890 annually. The 2.9 percent increase is the smallest one-year increase in 30 years.

Average out-of-state tuition, as well as the published costs to attend public two-year colleges and private institutions rose at slightly faster rates. But they also avoided big spikes.

Report co-author Sandy Baum says the upward spiral in tuition prices seems to be moderating.

But federal grant aid has gone down, so many students are paying more out of pocket.
