Local "El Dia de Lose Muertos" Celebrations Planned

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - Halloween is coming up and the festivities don't stop there.

The day of the dead is the following day and several local celebrations are planned.

While many families will be celebrating Halloween next week, many Latin Americans will also be celebrating El Día de los Muertos, or the Day of The Dead. The two holidays may look similar, but they are very different.

El Dia de los Muertos focuses on the gathering of families and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died. It's celebrated in many Latin American counties.

The Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association will host its 9th annual Dia de los Muertos art exhibit in downtown Yakima. The event starts October 26th and runs through November 2nd, at 106 S. 3rd Street.

Admission is free. Visit www.yakimamorelia.org for more information.

There will also be displays at many Hispanic stores in the Tri-Cities including Fiesta Foods.

You can read more about el Dia de los Muertos in the current issue of Tu Decides the bilingual newspaper.
