Annual Document Shred Event Happens in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA-- Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back day, but in Yakima you could do more than just get rid of old medicine.

In Yakima you were also able to get rid of old documents with personal and financial information.

This is the third year the Yakima Crime Stoppers planned it to fall on the same day as the medicine take back that is also happening around the country.

They said it's important to get rid of these documents properly.

"Get rid of it if you're not using it because that's how people find it. They find it in your garbage, they find it in different places and then they use that information to obviously to pretend they're you and steal from you," said Dave Purcell, president of the Yakima Crime Stoppers.

Last year they collected more than one and a half truckloads of shredded paper people brought in.

People could also donate money to the crime stoppers reward fund.
