Immigration Rights Organization Holds Gateway To Citizenship Workshop in Pasco
PASCO, WA - People looking to become American citizens got some free help Saturday in an effort to expedite the process.
Volunteers with One America, an immigration rights organization out of Seattle, held a Citizenship Day workshop at Collegium Café in Pasco for green card holders wanting to apply for naturalization.
There are more than 180,000 people in Washington who are eligible to become U.S. citizens. However, organizers with One America say a lot of those people can't afford it or that they are facing other challenges.
"We have volunteer attorneys, paralegal's and interrupters to help people fill out the application and get through that process and we're also helping fill out the fee waivers," said Ellicot Dandy, a volunteer with One America. "So, we are essentially helping people take care of all the legal elements to get the process started."
Several other cities in the Northwest held similar workshops including Olympia, Wenatchee and Des Moines, Idaho.
