PASCO, WA - Students at Rowena Chess Elementary School in Pasco got the chance to learn a little bit of Chinese Tuesday morning.
Teachers from the Tri-Cities Chinese Language School visited the school to demonstrate how modern Chinese characters evolved from pictures.
Organizers say the outreach classes are meant to help students better understand Chinese culture and history.
"This will hopefully broaden the eyes of the children so that they know that there are different ways to do the same thing," said Shuai Lu, the president of Tri-Cities Chinese American Association. " At the same time, this may open another door for them to a different world," he continued.
The Chinese Language School hopes to offer similar outreach classes to more elementary schools in the future.
