Viknesh Kasthuri is a
freshman at Richland High School. For the past seven years he has organized the
Hindu Society of Eastern Washington Halloween Food Drive in the Tri-Cities. Kasthuri and his
friends and family go door to door, not asking for candy bars, but canned goods
and other non-perishable items.
Before school on Monday
morning, they delivered 1,241 pounds of food and more than $800 in cash, which beat last year's Halloween food drive by about 20 pounds and several hundred dollars.
"It's really nice to see
how we can impact the community," Kasthuri says, "and how just a dozen of us
can make such a big difference in the community."
Katshuri says he's looking forward to beating that amount next Halloween.
