Christmas too Early? Or Just in Time?

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, at least inside some retail stores. Some say it is too early for decoration but others think the decorations are here just in time.

"It's too early, you have to save thanksgiving it's still in there," said Cora Ingram.

"It's too soon and you get tired of hearing the Christmas carols, which I love," said Michael Dearmin.

Christmas may be here too soon for some, but stores are ready for those who are already making a list and checking it twice.

Walmart began setting up their Christmas displays more than two weeks ago.

"One of the biggest things right now is generating excitement, the feel of Christmas and that's what we want to generate for our customers," said Kelly Bales, Kennewick Walmart Store Manager.

And because Thanksgiving is a little later this year there is less time between the two holidays, exactly 6 days less than last year, possibly bringing some extra pressure for retailers.

Still, some say it is not too soon to get into the holiday spirit.

"I think it's too early to decorate our homes but I don't think it's too early to have it on the market," said Edith Winkelbaver.

At least Walmart and Target already have ads on their web sites for holiday deals. Even if people are not buying quite yet. They are at least looking and that is what retailers are looking for.
