UPDATE:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police have identified the man they believe was driving the car that drove through Life Center Church on Government Way as 19-Year-Old David Evans. He is facing felony charges of 1st degree malicious mischief.

Evans said he was suicidal, mad at God and decided to take it out on the church. If convicted, he faces 0-90 days behind bars.

Evans will be having a mental evaluation to see if he is competent enough to stand trial. A court date has not been set.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT:

Police received a call just before 4 am Tuesday indicating that a vehicle had crashed into the auditorium area of the church. There are no known injuries at this time, however there is significant damage to the church.

Detectives have identified a person of interest in this incident. There is no evidence to indicate this was a hate crime. Detectives are also working to contact the registered owner of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.

Life Center Pastor, Joe Wittwer Sends Letter To Congregation:

"Friends, early this morning someone drove a car through the north wall of our church and into our auditorium. The good news is that no one was hurt, although we don't know the identity or status of the driver, who fled the scene.

We are already working with our insurance company and building contractor to begin the process of clean up and repairs. We will let you know if there is anything you can do.

Church services will happen on schedule this Sunday; I look forward to seeing you there!

I thought you would like to know that I've been flooded with calls and messages from other pastors, expressing their concern and offering to help. We have a lot of friends in the community!

We don't know whether this was deliberate or an accident, but please pray for the driver.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more.

Joe"

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Just before 4 o'clock Tuesday morning a car smashed through Life Center church ending up in the auditorium causing major damage. The suspect fled the scene and at this time authorities are searching for the driver of the vehicle.

Spokane Police said the evidence looks like the car was driving at a high rate of speed as the car smashed through the wall, flew across the stage and ended up in front of the pews. There is no sign that the driver even tried to brake and it looks like the car took a straight shot right into the building.

Life Center is located at 1202 N. Government Way.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Technically it was M.I.B. jurisdiction, but police in Apharetta took the lead on an extraterrestrial encounter on Sunday.  Officers pulled over a car for speeding and as they approached the car they noticed a little something out of place in the passenger seat: An alien.  Officers got a laugh and snapped some photos when they saw the big, black-eyed and pale passenger (who was even wearing his seatbelt).
