United Way Hosts Community Forum Focused at Health & Human Services

KENNEWICK, WA - A lot of the "movers and shakers" in the Tri-Cities got a better understanding Tuesday, of how our community is doing when it comes to health and other human services.

The half-day forum, hosted by United Way of Benton & Franklin Counties,  focused on education, health, safety and self-sufficiency in the two counties.

Some of the findings included how 35% of the Tri-Cities is overweight, the unemployment rate in our area is below the national average and crime is down despite an increasing population over the last decade.

"We're taking a look at the entire system of the community, especially in those four target areas," said Dr. Richard Cummins, the president at Columbia Basin College in Pasco. "So, I'm hoping members will walk away with specific activities they like to take in their areas of control, he continued"

This was the first year for the forum, but organizers plan to make it an annual event.
