PASCO, WA. – A Franklin County judge has sentenced the former mayor pro tem of Connell to two years in prison.

Monica Pruett pleaded guilty to embezzling $160,000 from a farm in Mesa where she worked as a bookkeeper.

Before sentencing Tuesday, the man Pruett stole from, Bill Swensen, told the judge Pruett never apologized and never showed remorse. Swensen told the judge he believes Pruett would do it again if given the chance.

"I knew that Monica had mentioned to several people she would like an ankle bracelet and keep on working, and I was dead set to see her go to jail," Swensen says.

Swensen says bank records revealed that Pruett had been withdrawing money from his accounts dating back to 2005.

When the judge asked Pruett if she had anything she would like to say before he sentenced her, Pruett said, "I'm sorry and hope everything goes all right."

Along with the prison term, the judge ordered Pruett to pay back the $160,000 as well as court costs.

Pruett's attorney says Pruett will sell her house and all of her commercial property. Pruett's relatives have also sold property to pay back the money.

In exchange for her guilty plea, the prosecutor dropped one count of money laundering.
