Phone Scam Targeting PUD Customers in Grant County

Posted: Updated:

GRANT COUNTY, WA. - A scam that has already hit both Benton and Franklin Counties is now circulating Grant County.

Grant County Sheriff's Deputies say scammers are calling Grant PUD customers and threatening to shut off their electricity unless they make an immediate payment. Some customers say they've received calls from scammers who say they are a PUD employee. They ask the victim to meet them somewhere, other than a PUD office, to make the payment.

Deputes say Grant PUD employees will never ask customers to make payments at a location other than a payment facility.

Grant PUD does make calls to customers who are behind on their bills. However, all customers who are unsure about a call should tell the caller they will hang up and call back. Grant PUD's main customers service number is (509) 766-2505 or toll free (800) 422-3199.

Any calls that are suspected to be a scam should be reported to the customer's local police agency.
